Ethiopian Airlines celebrates International Women’s Day with flight staffed entirely by women

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline, celebrated International Women’s Day on Friday with a flight operated entirely by women.

The airline announced on Twitter that its recent flight from Addis Ababa to Oslo, Norway, was made with an all-women crew.

The airline said on Facebook earlier this week that the flight was operated by women from “flight deck to the ground including airport operations, flight dispatch, load control, ramp operation, on-board logistics, safety and security, catering as well as traffic control.”

A veteran banker who was expected to help lead Marathon International Bank, a proposed de novo in the nation’s capital, has quit.

Zekarias Tamrat, who was set to become the bank’s president, said in a LinkedIn post Monday the he left after a falling out with Tekalign Gedamu, the proposed chairman. The post, directed at the de novo’s potential investors, claimed that Tekalign and other directors have been making decisions that would ultimately harm the bank if it ever opened.

Organizers have been looking to launch a bank that would largely focus on the Ethiopian-American community around Washington.

Ethiopia moves to combat Forex trading on black market

The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has initiated processes to better regulate foreign exchange transactions and by that weaken the black market. According to a new directive, importers are obliged to request for foreign currency from the NBE based on the international prices of their imports. The central bank’s chief economist and its vice governor Yohanes Ayalew, confirmed that the directive had been circulated to commercial banks and was already being enforced.
