This well-designed restaurant features sunset-coloured walls, Ethiopian artefacts and an area for traditional-style eating from mesabs (handwoven dome-topped tables). It’s a popular venue for clusters of East African men, who converge at lunchtime to chat, smoke or sip traditional coffee. It’s also quite a good catch-all for tourists, being just a few minutes from King’s Cross station. There’s a lot to choose from on the menu, with almost 30 main meal options including chicken stews and minced beef dishes, but only one fish dish: samak muhamar, deep-fried snapper cooked in spiced batter, with fresh salad. It wasn’t bad, although the fish can be boney. The meat offerings are sturdier, such as tibs fer fer: cubes of lean lamb fried in onions and served with enjera. Vegetarian options are more imaginative, with fuul musalah, an East African dish of crushed fave beans topped with feta cheese and falafal and sautéed in sesame oil, sounding particularly appealing. >>more
